CSV Export in Postorius only export email addresses but no names

Hi, I want to export the addresses of a mailing list in Postorius. At the List Members section I found 'CSV Export'. However it only exports the email addresses without the names. Is there a trick to make this happen? Thank you. Flo

The server is set to UTC and the date command shows it has the correct date and time. And I received the message ---- 25 September at 20:57 UTC But the message is shown (incorrectly) in the archive as having been posted on 26 September at 8:57 a.m. (out by +12 hours) It should be shown as 25 September 8:57 p.m. Any pointers on where I can adjust/correct this date/time setting for future posts? Hi everybody, as per subject, I'm getting this error in the hyperkitty log when mailman daemon tries to archive a mail. I've setup the hyperkitty.cfg file with api_key = MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_KEY in settings_local.py but still nothing. I've seen here and in GitLab issues some errors concerning a wrong api key but here it says that it wasn't sent at all. All packages installed via pip install + latest .zip release, including mailman-hyperkitty. Currently running on apache with mod_wsgi_py3 without https. Any clue? All the best, Marco Marinello

Hello to all: We receive quite a bit of spam. I try to maintain some regular expressions in "Discard these non-members" to block spammers. Where would the "discard" notification be logged? I think the docs say "mailman.log". What would I search for?

Hello to all: I thought I should share. We have: Anonymous List: No DMARC mitigation action: Wrap the message in an outer message From: the list. But our message weren't being wrapped. After I period of months, I experimented. Now I've realized that "DMARC wrapped message text" must contain some message. Now our messages are wrapped.

Postfix and Rspamd reject all Mailman messages after upgrading to Mailcow 2025-09b

Thanks for looking into this. I'm sorry to admit that I unfortunately mixed up two apparently unrelated issues. The first of these was some problem, where my mailman-installation was unable to send mails to some subscribers. The mails were rejected with SPOOFED_UNAUTH messages - I will not deal with this here. My installation is based on Debian 12 (Bookworm), with dockerized versions of Mailcow and Mailman 3 as described here: https://docs.mailcow.email/third_party/mailman3/third_party-mailman3/ The server is a VM, running on Proxmox. Mailcow and Mailman are on the same VM. It took a little time for me to setup things correctly, but mostly it seemed to work nicely. But a week ago it stopped working - I guess because I upgraded Mailcow to 2025-09b. The problem for me right now is that Rspamd rejects all messages, coming from Mailman. Postfix receives mails coming to the mailing lists, but when Mailman tries to forward the mails to the subscribers, Postfix/Rspamd block all of them. Postfix/Rspamd also block mails sent directly from Mailman, such as Welcome-messages - see an example below. In Mailcow, I have under "Options" added 172.19.199.1/24 as a "Forwarding Host" with no spam filter. I hoped this would make Rspamd happy, but apparently not. All messages, sent directly from Mailcow, pass various on-line tests of SSL, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, and are accepted by other servers (Gmail, Hotmail etc.). All web-interfaces to Mailcow and Mailman work fine. Messages to the various lists are archived, but not sent to the subscribers. HSTS Missing from HTTPS Server

In my configuration, I am using Apache to reverse proxy the requests to a uwsgi. After our security office scanned the server, it was shown that HSTS is missing from the HTTPS server. The instructions say to add some lines to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/. The only file in there is 000-default.conf that holds the configuration, but the VirtualHost is port 80. I am using an F5 to to automatically redirect port 80 to port 443, but it is still showing this vulnerability. My question is, how can enable the Virtual Host for 443 on the server? Or can that configuration be located somewhere else? Or can I just create a new Virtual Host with the added configuration for mailman? Thanks, Joe Koral

It's currently running Postgres 13, and we are looking at upgrading to 16. Can anyone tell me what the implications of such an upgrade be in the context of Mailman3? Any gotchas? Issues sending to gmail and yahoo e-mails

Has anyone experienced recent issues with Mailman3 not being able to send to gmail and yahoo e-mail addresses. I am trying to figure out if Google has our server blocked or not. When I send a manual e-mail from the server, the my yahoo e-mail gets delivered, but the gmail one does not. How about a feature to include "HTML" in the current Hyperkitty choices of (Text or Markdown) rendering? A sanitizer must be used to prevent malicious attacks. https://github.com/messense/nh3 . lxml is another package that processes html. A sanitizer would be helpful for more aspects. Permit a limited set of markdown so that messages still appear professional. Gitlab/Github don't allow arbitrary fonts or font sizes, right? Mostly remove these tags. A way that code blocks could be presented: determine an established list of known codeblock styles. Configure the sanitizer to permit this range of fonts or styling elements. By allowing them through the filter, a code styling is rendered. (It is permitted/allowed to be rendered.) Even better, when the sanitizer recognizes the fonts, it replaces them with an "official" set of codeblock fonts. Otherwise, if other font tags are entirely removed, if they are missing, the email client or web ui will decide the font selection, and it will appear "standard". In order for both email clients and Hyperkitty to view the same result, the sanitizer should ideally be applied to outgoing emails as well as rendering in the UI. That means this feature would affect more than just Hyperkitty. (i.e. mailman-core). Although, that could be implemented as a separate step, until which time emails would get a full range of HTML, without sanitizing. In this scheme, ensure outgoing emails are multi-part MIME with plain text and html versions. Some of our users are really in favor of more formatting. Others prefer plain text. Those who prefer plain text have various arguments that HTML messages will be rendered badly, and won't be legible. Questions: 1. Would "multi-part MIME with plain text and html versions both" solve the problem for users who prefer plain text? 2. What percentage of email clients that support HTML formatting when sending will also include a plain text rendering of the same content in the outgoing message? 3. Is it usually the responsibility of a receiving mail client to be able to convert HTML to plain text if the user requests it? 4. When mailman-core receives and then sends out a message, can it receive HTML, generate a plain-text version, and then send both? Thoughts?

Someone sent a short E-Mail with an Emoition in it. Is there something known about problems? The mails was sent via mailman3, but not archived due to the error. I can bring more details, please let me know, if this is requested. I did upgrade one of my mailman3 server after Abhilasj announcement: "I am pleased to announce several new releases for GNU Mailman project. 1. Django-mailman3 1.3.8 [5]" I did it via pip and all seems to be working, but when I try to discard or accept any message via postorius it shows a Forbidden 403 error CSRF verification failed. Hi all, i tried to install Mailman3 according to https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#virtualenv-inst…. I’m using Mariadb instead of PostgreSQL, but that is no problem until now. Where i fail: I have to make an entry var_dir: /opt/mailman/mm/var in /etc/mailman3/mailman.cfg. But there is no directory /opt/mailman/mm, and there are no subdirectories. No $var_dir, no postfix_lmtp, no postfix_transports. Where do i get those files from? TIA QNo

I am thinking of moving my team to a model like that and would love to read about some best practices or strong opposition to the idea. I am hopeful that out there there are companies which have resisted the Microsoft Teams virus. If your company uses mailing lists to run, please reach out. Hi there, I migrated form MM2.1 to MM3.3.10 on Debian Trixie (mariadb backend) -- I know that's a bit unorthodox to ask here for help on a non venv-based installation, but hopefully I'll first gain a bit of insight of MM3 in order to formulate a more precise request to Debian maintainers. ## Issue #1. A newly invited (from Postorius mass subscription page) and confirmed user doesn't get any password in their invitation/welcome e-mail. Subscription Request asking for Confirmation instead of Moderation

We have a list where the Subscription Policy (Settings -> Member Policy -> Subscription Policy) is set to "Moderate" and when I send a message to LISTNAME-join(a)example.com<mailto:LISTNAME-join@example.com> (not the real domain, obviously) everything works as expected and the user shows up in the Pending Approval list. We have a Drupal website that allows users to submit a form that, among other things, sends a subscription request to our Mailman3 'join' address. When that happens, however, instead of going to the Pending Approval list, the name is shows on the Pending Confirmation page. We don't send a Welcome message so as far as I can tell, they do not get an email asking them to confirm their email address. Two questions: 1. Are there particular headers that are causing the email to go to the Confirmation page instead of the Approval page? Or are there particular headers we can add that will help with this? 2. Is there any way for us to move an address from the Confirmation Pending page to confirmed on the backend (preferably through the web interface, but on the server itself, if necessary)? Perhaps, you had similar problems with your installation, especially when coming from mailman2 and, like me, from majordomo...... I collected a lot of information which was presented in this mailling list archive here and also answers of my questions (thanks Mark and others) News: https://github.com/Wikinaut/mailman3-tools has all of these tools. Why are moderation mails sent to list moderator (if there are any) _and_ then also to the list owner?

Dear all, I am quity puzzled to receive a bunch of mails which are moderators works - I just set up one person as a list moderator - but I do receive the moderation request as well. How can this be stopped? I just tested the behaviour and I can't see any switch in the list settings (at the moment) to avoid sending moderations to the owner for such lists, where moderator(s) are defined. A Bug?

In my list test I have my address1 as member (only this one member). I definitely send a mail from my address2[sic] to ml test. The list settings are: 1. accept mails from members (address2 is not a member) 2. discard mails from non-members (address2 is not a member of ml test) When sending from address2, my mail is accepted. When I, for sake of completeness switch 1. to moderate mails from member[sic], my mail from address2 gets moderated. Please explain. It looks like a bug. I double-checked the field "accept from non-members" to be empty, yes, is empty, where I otherwise add all members by adding the internal ml whitelist in form of the entry @whitelist@mydomain.com .

We have a list member that got disabled due to bounces, but that should be fixed after we implemented DMARC and SPF. So as I don't know how to access the disabled status from the CLI (we have no GUI), I tried to delete and re-subscribe them. But although they are listed as a member, they cannot be deleted: # sudo -u list mailman members list(a)domain.tld | grep "$x" M... <M....@web...> # sudo -u list mailman delmembers -m "$x" -l list(a)domain.tld Member not subscribed (skipping): M... <M....@web...> How can I fix this from the command line? Either by restoring their "disabled" status, or deleting and re-subscribing them?

Hi, I'm trying to set up Mailman 3 on a RHEL9 (unfortunately Debian/Ubuntu aren't options) and have been making some progress, but I'm having trouble getting Xapian to work. I first tried to install it using Method 1 (https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#set-up-xapian) however, xapian_wheel_builder.sh seems to just exit right as it starts "preparing xapian wheel...". I ended up installing Xapian 1.4.29 from source and symlinking xapian in the venv as per Method 2. When trying to search the archives the error below is generated. help with startup scripts

Hello, I'm trying to get mailman3 working on Ubuntu. I'm following these instructions: https://docs.list.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#setup-virtualenv I've gotten to the point where I can successfully su - to the mailman3 user, and manually start the mailman3 process with the startup command. However, when I follow the systemctl startup scripts as per the instructions at the URL above, it get stuck in the startup ... forever Starting from the command line works great! Hello, I know this question comes up here periodically, but I am having some trouble performing a data migration from an older version of mailman3 to a more recent one. We have a legacy environment with: mailman3.2.2 postorius 1.2.4 hyperkitty 1.2.2 there are two sqlite3 dbs for mailman core and mailman web. I've staged a new environment using the docker-mailman project with the following: mailman3.3.9 postorius 1.3.10 hyperkitty 1.3.8 there is a single postgres db here for both core and web. I've tried migration a few different ways, using pgloader, and also with some manual python scripts. Data is definitely not my forte, but I am struggling to get a working instance. I am running into several issues such as foreignkeyviolations, datatype mismatches, unique PK errors, etc.. Does anyone out there have a prescriptive process for this migration, or a suggestion for workflow/tooling that has worked in a similar upgrade process? Thanks! -Peter

Hello I'm running Debian 12 with the latest version and installed mailman3 via apt install-mailman3-full. Everything works, I'm using MySQL as the database. There's something strange, and I can't find a source/solution. When I first access the website domain.nl/mailman3, it's redirected to domain.nl/mailman/postorius/lists/, resulting in a 404 error (3 after mailman is missing). When I accessed it a second time with the same link (domain.nl/mailman3), I was redirected to domain.nl/mailman3/postorius/lists and the welcome page appeared. This is strange... I tested it on a mobile device with Chrome and Firefox, and on a desktop with Chrome and Edge. All the results were the same. Is there a specific file to look add? Regards, Peter

I've been playing with the voting system on a couple of lists (this one included). There are some weird behaviours I've noticed: * votes are frequently not immediately reflected - a page reload is required * some votes display as: 0 0 You dislike it (cancel) Here we see I've voted on a message, but the counts are still zero up and zero down. I just down-voted one of my posts as a test, and nothing changed in the page to reflect the vote. Often it takes multiple clicks, sometimes a page reload. I recently followed the instructions here https://github.com/g4rf/dockerized-mailcow-mailman, and was able to create a new Mailman 3, Debian-based installation. I then followed the instructions here https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/migration.html in order to migrate from my old, Centos-based installation, to the new, Debian-based installation. It seemed to work well, but unfortunately a problem showed up. mailman addmember/syncmember commands print undecoded UTF-8 [ADD] or [DEL] mail addresses in its messages like "[ADD] =?utf-8?q?John_=....."

My post here is merely about the information output when running mailman addmembers/syncmembers where I discovered strange looking lines. I noticed that addmember and syncmember output looks like [ADD] =?utf-8?q?John_=28Foo=29_Doe_=5Bcomment1=5D_=5Bcomment2=5D?= <john.foo.doe(a)example.com> whereas the entries in the Web-GUI look fine. I triple-checked the textfile from which the names stem from, yes, the file is UTF8. Is this behaviour of addmember/syncmember command output commonly known - or is this a small cosmetic bug? PS. At some moment I had, probably from my test and legay data file, also these codings in about fifty entries of my users lists, but deleted that users with a small script, so that user list is now clean. My post here is merely about the information output when running mailman addmembers/syncmembers.
